Have you ever wanted to do something, but didn’t know where to start?
Do your ideas and dreams seem overwhelming in comparison to your resources and skills? The good news is, having a goal is half the work and the most difficult part!
I started this blog with dreams of being a science-fiction novelist; total shocker, I know, but I have always been into the mysterious and supernatural. The problem was that I wasn’t confident in my writing and the idea of my friends (and worse – strangers) reading my thoughts and ideas, gave me near crippling anxiety.
I figured, if I can get in the habit of writing on a consistent basis I’ll feel more confident in my writing voice and get comfortable with exposure.
The hardest part for me was the fear of judgment, of being mediocre, but in my early blogging days almost no one was reading it, so my fears were quickly dismissed.
By the time my blog started getting regular traffic and subscribers, I had developed my own style of writing and tone allowing me to be comfortable and confident in my content. It only took a few months of consistent posting to get there, but then I realized blogging was a true interest of mine and I was no longer working toward the same goals. I had to shift gears.
At the time, I was writing about a wide variety of content for practice purposes only, but developing my blog into a desirable place to be would inevitably take a lot more work and research. Unfortunately, since I’ve always been a full-time student and employee, I wasn’t able to dedicate the true focus my blog deserved.
Year 2017 dawned and I gained a new blogging perspective.
I began learning how to utilize social media and started investing in myself, treating my blog like a business rather than a hobby and really focusing on quality, informative content.
During the time when my blog was under heavy construction, I was primarily working in the beauty industry. First at Lush, where I was fortunate to learn all about skincare, hair care, ingredients for effect, ethics and transparency. Then I dove into the vast YouTube universe as well as taking some makeup courses on the side and networking in the industry. I started to notice people complimenting my makeup, asking for tips and even getting my own gigs!
Now I am a part-time makeup artist and I have been able to refocus my blog to a point where I can express my passions and be informative and creative. I urge you all to reach out with suggestions and questions; I would love to help you pursue your dreams. I believe knowledge is an inexhaustible resource. I love sharing what I know, and love that my readers and subscribers encourage me to learn and grow even more.
