Hey guys, I’m finally back with another blog post reviving a topic that is original to my blog: hair.
I’ve done many hair posts in the past, but my mane essentials have definitely shifted drastically with my style & lifestyle changes. Here are my products and tools that get the most action in my hair collection.
10. Microfiber Hair Wrap
By this point, almost all of us have heard of this hair must-have. I picked mine up from Target in a 2-pack and it makes wash day a lot smoother. My hair used to be so frizzy and this has definitely diminished my frizz, plus my hair gets dry so much faster.
9. DIY (Fermented) Rice Water
I’m a sucker for a beauty DIY, but I wasn’t expecting to love the rice water treatment as much as I do. It gives my hair a softness and shine I don’t see with other treatments.
I just take (1) tbsp of rinsed, raw rice and jar it with (1-2) cups of water. I’ll let it sit for (24-48) hours before straining. Then after I shampoo and condition, I dip my ends into the rice water before rinsing over my full head. Note: the rice water does smell a little like popcorn, so I add a couple drops of tea tree or lavender oil into the rice water, or I’ll top my hair with an oil after the rinse.
8. Fun Scrunchies & Clips
I think we all know that scrunchies have made a comeback (if we can call it that because they’ve never left TBH). I’m happy that now it is easy to find colorful, find hair ties and clips instead of having to look high and low and wind up in the kids’ section. My favorites to use come from this 54-pack of rainbow velvet scrunchies, but I also love fuzzy scrunchies, my tortoiseshell clips, and all colors of hair ribbons.
7. Claw Clips
Thanks to Gen Z, claw clips are back in production (though for me they’ve never gone out of style). I’m not sure why this 90’s look is getting so much love, but for me claw clips are just practical! Ideal for pulling my hair up, or sectioning hair when I’m styling, you can find basic ones at Sally’s or pick up this tortoiseshell clip I found at Urban.
6. Blow Dryer Brush
This is a newer addition to my hair arsenal, but it’s something I’ve always needed. This hair dryer brush helps to fully dry and style my hair without getting those tired arms using a brush and regular blow dryer. I give myself fake blowouts and with the help of some hair spray, it really looks like salon work.
5. Shea Moisture 100% Virgin Coconut Rehydration Treatment Masque
Every girl needs a hair masque, regardless of hair type. This is one I’ve been buying for years and I love the way it hydrates my curly hair. I notice deep hydration, smoother and bouncier curls, and silkier hair. I use it before I’m straightening my hair and right after, when I go back to my curls just to help with moisture and repair.
4. Silk Scarf
There are lots of ways to care for your hair overnight, but silk scarves and pillowcases are some of the more popular options. In my case, I’ve been wrapping my hair in a silk scarf before bed for years. I love how long it keeps my hair smooth and straight, but beyond that I use it as a ponytail accessory, hair braid accessory, or headband.
3. Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector
Where have I been all my life? If you’re not using a bond builder or bond repair product, this is one I would definitely give a try. It helps to repair the damage we do to our hair, but it’s more of an internal treatment. You won’t notice an immediate difference, but I have seen my curl pattern becoming more defined and I’ve seen a substantial drop in split ends (even with all the heat I’m using).
2. Hot Tools Flat Iron
Yes, sadly, I am still addicted to using heat, partly due to this flat iron. It is a slim 1” ceramic flat iron that heats up fast and maintains heat well. It has (4) heat settings with a maximum heat of 450 degrees. I love the lock feature that keeps it shut tight when transporting and the swivel cord for easy styling. I use this to both straighten and curl my hair and it always comes out smooth and shiny.
1. D4 Original Denman Brush
All my real curly girls know about this life-changing brush, but if not, it’s recently gone viral on TikTok so hurry and grab yourself one.
I can’t pin down what makes this brush so epic, but it truly helps to detangle, define, and smooth the hair. I use it to get more definition and body with my curly hair, and to brush through tangles for fluffy, straight hair.
Making this list just makes me realize I am a hair product hoarder. There are tons of products I use regularly (like velvet scrunchies, no-crease clips, and styling creams) that didn’t make the top 10 cut. Are there any on this list that are go-to’s for you as well, or what do you think this list is missing?
