When it comes to skincare, probably my favorite thing to do is exfoliate. Something about the sensation is so relaxing and it makes me feel like I am really getting a deep clean to my skin. I was lucky enough to receive 3 products from the ExfoliKate line complimentary from Influenster. After taking my sweet time trying them out I’ve finally got a review for you!
ExfoliKate Cleanser
When I cleanse my face, I like to feel refreshed, the way your mouth feels after chewing gum and then drinking cold water.
I do not like that tight, overly cleansed feeling common of many drugstore cleansers. I do not like foaming/bubbling cleansers, as they tend to strip your skin.
Some of the current cleansers I am enjoying are:
- Tarte Frxxtion Stick
- Lush Angels on Bare Skin
- Lush Ocean Salt
- Lush Ultrabland
- Origins Checks and Balances frothy face wash (slightly too clarifying for my taste but is great for nighttime cleansing; also complimentary from Influenster)
The ExfoliKate cleanser is similar to the Origins Checks and Balances in the sense that they are thick and slightly creamy. Beyond that, there aren’t similar ingredients or effects.
The ExfoliKate cleanser is pale green and light in scent. This product is supposed to brighten and reduce the appearance of pores. Personally, I have an allergy to pineapple, and so this cleanser did not feel pleasant on my skin. I’d notice mild bumps appearing in some areas of my face and the reaction got worse with continued use.
An ingredients list does not come in the Influenster product package and the items are usually too small to display on the tubes. It wasn’t until looking up the ingredients that I found out why I was reactive to it. There is not pineapple in the exfoliating treatment or moisturizer.
The full-size product is $38. I would recommend if you’re interested, try a sample first and see how it works on your skin. Obviously, this was a miss for me.
ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment
Okay so, I’ve already prefaced this review by saying that I love exfoliating, right? With that in mind, my hopes were pretty high for this treatment. It claims to be, “Hollywood’s 2-Minute Facial,” so naturally I expected Halle Berry-like results.
Not the case.
This is a thick dark green paste reminiscent of toothpaste. It has a very fine grainy texture and a soft, earthy-citrus scent. The instructions advise applying to dampened skin with wet fingers, massaging in for 30 seconds and then letting it sit on the skin for 2 minutes before rinsing.
As a reminder I have normal skin with an oily T-zone (on a scale of 1-10 being extreme, my T-zone is about 4.5 oily rating). I did not see/feel any of the following results:
- any significantly enhanced glow
- any toning of discoloration or dark spots
- balanced skin
- clarified sensation
- anything at all really
Honestly, after trying this, I would not recommend purchasing. It may work well for those of you with sensitive skin, dry skin or acne prone skin, but for those with a similar skin type to myself, save your coins.
ExfoliKate Glow Moisturizer
In line with the other products sent to me in this package, the ExfoliKate Glow Moisturizer is lightly scented with citrus-earthy notes and is pale green in color. This moisturizer is kind of jiggly in texture and looks/feels oily on the skin.
I am still actually trying this moisturizer out, but I would not recommend it as a pre-makeup moisturizer, especially if you are prone to oiliness throughout the day. Instead I would advise using this as a night cream or on dry patches/dry skin types.
This product is almost 2 ounces and costs $65, which for the quantity I think is a great price. It isn’t worth it for me as I prefer balancing moisturizers but I did enjoy using this moisturizer at night.
As these products were gifted to me, I’m really appreciate the opportunity to try them out. For opposite skin types or those that really need glow-enhancers these would probably work really well! However for me that just was not the case.
I would not recommend these to those that have potentially reactive skin, but they would be great in the winter time for dry, flaky skin. If you have these products and had a more positive experience, let me know! I’d love to see how this stuff worked for others.
