PSA: if you weren’t already aware, Sephora had a discount sale in stores and online for their very important members. Beauty Insiders, VIBs and VIB Rougettes (that’s my name for them) get up to 20% off during the sales event and no Sephora item is off limits. Despite the fact that I should be spending my money on more practical things, I can’t pass up a discount at one of my favorite stores.
I’m a Sephora VIB member which means that I could take advantage of 15% off all items I purchase at Sephora from the 19th to the 24th of April. There are several items I have been researching and wanting to try so I figured this is the best time to splurge.
I went on my lunch break because I knew that having limited time would prevent me from buying excessively (does anyone else do stuff like that?), and for it to be 1pm on a Wednesday my local Sephora was pretty packed.
This palette was released in December 2016 and is basically a dupe for the Anastasia x Nicole Guerriero palette that came out a month or so ago. I swatched both in stores but found the ABH Nicole palette to be too frosty and glittery for my tastes. This palette isn’t as buttery, but in a good way. It allows you more control when applying highlight and the colors themselves aren’t as frosty making them more WOC friendly.
Despite me having combo-oily skin, I love a wet/dewy look to the face. I was originally going to purchase the CoverFX drops, but I found them to be too pigmented and reflective, if that’s possible. I wanted something that I could add to my sunscreen for some glow on no-makeup days, or wear with my full face makeup when I’m going for 100% glam.
After using this for a week or so I feel that if you have oily to very oily skin, this product might not work for you. It has a very dewy finish, so on very oily skin types it can appear greasy. Also, I am not sure how this performs on dry skin. I would recommend testing it out over a primer to see how it works.
Speaking of primers, I had to pick this one up. My previous holy-grail primer was the Hourglass Mineral Veil, but we all know it gives some ghostly flashback in flash photos. I had to use it in certain areas or apply foundation darker than my skin to combat those issues.
I needed a primer for two reasons: first, to add to my primer collection and be able to cater to all skin types for my clients. Secondly, I have terrrrrrible creasing in my smile lines because I have wrinkles like an 80 year old comedian, and I needed something that would help my makeup last longer.
I’ve been using this product for over a week now at least and I really love it. I notice a difference in the longevity of my makeup and even though it has a radiant finish, I don’t look oily or greasy when my makeup is complete. I have tried this with the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in Matte & Poreless as well as the Hourglass Vanish Stick Foundation that is my go-to, and a couple others that I can’t remember right now. I did notice with the Vanish Stick it appeared slightly too dewy after 4-5 hours of wear, but that is natural to the Vanish stick so I cannot be sure if the Becca primer had anything to do with it.
Overall, I have really loved this and it is something I would repurchase, though I am not opposed to trying out other primers to see if they perform better.
If you know me personally then you probably know that I am a mascara junkie. This product has been my absolute #1 foundation for over a year now. The pros of the Better than Sex is that there is plenty of product inside and it lasts very long, plus you can get more product out of the tube by adding a couple drops of Maracuja oil, coconut oil or whatever skin-safe oil you like. The wand is curved and full of bristles, so it is great for volumizing the lashes. Cons are that this products doesn’t seem to dry 100%; I don’t notice a lot of transferring but if you touch your lashes, mascara will rub off on your fingers. Occasionally little flakes of mascara will fall onto my cheeks by the end of the day. Also this mascara isn’t ultra-black but a soft black. I usually layer a darker mascara over it. If you have naturally medium-long lashes, but lack volume and fullness then this is for you.
I recently made a substantial purchase from Super Glitters and realized once I got the glitter that I couldn’t play around with it because I had no glitter glue. I asked friends for recommendations and this glue is the one I ended up with. Actually, I had attempted to purchase this a week prior at the Sephora on Powell Street but they were all sold out, so I am glad I waited for the sale I guess.
I haven’t used this on my own eyes yet but I have tested it on clients and so far, no complaints about the glue not sticking. The product seems to be resilient and you can’t detect any glue behind the glitter, although it does come out of the tube in a pale pink tone.
I am anxious to give this a try because I have somewhat oily lids, and I’d like to see how it holds up.
I totally forgot to swatch the radiant drops, so I will do my best to get that done tonight and maybe do a complete face/eye look with the highlighting palette.
There were a few products on my want list (like a full size of the GlamGLOW Mega Illuminating Moisturizer in Nude Glow and some Kat Von D liquid lippies) that I didn’t end up purchasing on the day of. I was trying to be a good girl and stay under $120, which I did, so later this month I might do a bit more splurging. I told myself there was no way I could ever get to VIB Rouge status but I am starting to think it isn’t so impossible…
If you ladies picked up any items from the sale leave a comment below telling me what you hauled. Or if you’ve tried some of these products, what do you think?
